A finished finish

Yup, my SAL of Just Nan's Be Scary with my DSIL is now complete including the finishing. We had a lovely day yesterday doing a FAL (finishing along) and we both got our Be Scary pieces finished up. I ended up using some different fabric for the flatfold than I originally planned. I'd totally forgot I had this fabric in my stash, but once I saw it I thought the coloring and pattern size were a much better fit than my previous choice. I'd never done a flatfold before, so Kim walked me through each step and we had a blast. So here's my finish in all its glory.

We also decided on what our next SAL will be. We'll both be doing a piece by Lizzie Kate, but not the same design, just similar in size. Kim will be doing Jolly Men Bearing Gifts (I think that's the right name) and I'm going to do Up on the Woof Top, some fun light hearted pieces.

Hmmm, I see a pattern here, we finished a Halloween piece up a couple months past Halloween, and now we're doing a Christmas piece after Christmas. Oh well, instead of feeling that we are behind in the holidays I'll look at them both as being well ahead of the game for the next one. :)

We'll I'm off to get the rest of my stuff for the tax preparer ready, as I'm supposed to drop it off tomorrow. Don't you just love this time of year, LOL.

Keeping busy

Yup, that's what I've been doing. Not with stitching, I really need to get going on that again, but with lots of other things. First, my daughter has been here visiting since Jan. 1, she'll be leaving on the 24th so we've had plenty of time to catch up and do things. We've caught a couple movies, Sherlock Holmes and Avatar, both of which I enjoyed. We've watched some old favorites on DVD and she got caught up on the Harry Potter ones she'd missed. In addition she got me hooked on Zoo. I don't do much on Facebook, pretty much the only reason I joined was so I could see the pictures and such she would post as Facebook was what she liked to use. However, she started playing Zoo on Facebook awhile back and so got me hooked while she was here. The animals are so cute, and we have a lot of fun telling each other what is coming up for adoption or gifting to each other on it so that both our Zoo's will grow. Amazing how much time can get lost in computer game land.

As many of you probably remember my daughter worked for Ringling Brothers, in props and then in lighting. Here's a couple pictures of her just having fun

While she's loved working there as she traveled all over the US and got to see so much she never would have otherwise, she's decided its been long enough. Her boyfriend went to another circus a while back and they've been struggling with not being able to see each other due to different touring schedules (and always seeming to be on opposite sides of the US). So.. she's off to Calif. where he's at now so they can be together. Which is why I got the lovely visit from her for almost a month as she's between places.

While she's been here she's also been making me go to the gym. We've gone almost every day since she's been here. While I haven't as yet lost any weight (major bummer) the amount of time I can last on the treadmill and the time on the weight machines has increased, so hopefully I'm getting healthier and the weight will be reflected later. To try and encourage me to keep it up after she leaves she got me this beautiful blue ipod nano. Sorry the picture's not as clear as I'd like, I put it in the protective case before I took its picture, and then couldn't figure out how to get it back out of the case for the picture so its still in it, LOL.
She figures exercising is more fun with good music of your choice (she's right on that one), and she went ahead and loaded it with tons of my favorite music. She even had it engraved as you can see at the top, it says

Just put one foot in front of the other :)

which is kind of my motto. In so many things sometimes I feel overwhelmed, but I just tell myself to just put one foot in front of the other and take it one step at a time. So she had that put on the nano, and it fits as not only my motto but also for exercise too, kind of a double duty saying, LOL.

Finally, while no stitching has been going on I finished three more cat mats. Actually the one in browns needs about three more rows, but it is so close I counted it as done and took its picture with the others.
Thanks for all your good wishes on the job interview. It went well, and there was a follow up last week. So.. waiting to hear what may be decided.
