Last post for 2009

This will be my last post for the year, I still can't believe another year has flown by. This week has been a busy one. I got to the fabric store and found some fun fabric I think will work for the backing on Be Scary for my flatfold.

It's a bit bigger and busier than I'd normally choose, but I liked the purple and thought the pattern was fun. Also, this way it will be fun to look at whether you see the front or the back. Since some of my end tables are set so if I were to put it there you could see the back as you enter the room, this will make it a bit more interesting. At least I hope, anyway. What do you all think? Look ok? Do you like it? Or, do you think I should try to find a bit smaller print?

Also, while I was at the store I found two other fun pieces of fabric. The hot cocoa and candy cane one will be fun for a Christmas piece, and the hearts will be perfect for a Valentine's one. Just what I need, more stash, LOL. However, they don't take up much room. In addition, I had a coupon for $10 of product, with no purchase necessary so, actually it was all free stash. Pretty good huh!

So what else is new? My DD will be home for a visit. She's flying in New Year's Day. I'm so excited. It's been quite a while since she's been home. In addition, hope you'll all keep your fingers crossed for me and send good wishes my way because I got a call for a job interview. My interview is for next Wednesday morning.

Hope you all have a fun and safe New Year's Eve, and I'll see you next year. :)

It's finished

It's finished, I can't believe how quickly this piece went. I started it on Thanksgiving and finished up the other evening, that may be a record for me. This was such a fun piece. I can't believe it's been in my stash waiting to be done for so long. Doing this as a SAL with my DSIL was just the motivation I needed. So here in all its glory is Just Nan's Be Scary on 32 ct. Belfast Linen (not sure on the color). Ignore the owl charm being a bit cockeyed (it really does hang straight normally), I didn't notice till after I was ready to post the picture it was slanted, and it's to dark now to get a good replacement photo.

I've never done a flat fold before, but Kim has. Now I just need to find a time that we both have free so she can help me finish it off. She's close to being done with hers too, so we'll be able to finish them off at the same time as she wants to do hers as a flat fold also.

My other finish this week was the cat mat I started the end of November (the one with yellow/orange/purple/green). This one was done in a chunky yarn so is quite squishy, perfect for a little older kitty to nap on that needs more cushion. Size wise it is 20x28 inches, same as the others have been.

With these two finishes I'm up to 12 knit or crochet finishes this year and 11 crossstitch finishes, 23 in total. This compares to the same number last year, but last year I had 9 knit/crochet and 14 crossstitch, so the mix was a little different. With the little time left in the year, I don't anticipate many more finishes, but as I'm a little over halfway done with another cat mat, should have one more done by year end. With one more finish, I'll have completed one more project this year than last, not to bad.

Here's wishing you all a wonderful and safe holiday.

Bats and a Cat

Couldn't think of a good title today and Bats and a Cat is all that came to mind as those were going to be my pictures, so that's what I went with. First off Bats, here is my current progress with Just Nan's Be Scary.

This is a fun stitch, the witches were a bit of a pain as the colors kept shifting, and since they weren't very big, and there were three of them, it meant quite a bit of stopping and starting. However, other than the little bead for each ones buckle they are done. I haven't done any of the beading on this yet. There isn't a lot, so shouldn't take very long to get it done once the stitching is finished.

I made pretty good headway on this as I just finished listening to the book on CD Finger Lickin' Fifteen by Janet Evanovich while I was stitching. Her books are so funny, I had to stop stitching occasionally as I was laughing to hard to be able to place my needle. However, it was kind of odd too. I got a call from the library that the material I'd ordered was ready for pick up. I couldn't remember what I'd ordered, as didn't remember ordering anything. When I got there and saw the book on CD it hit me. I'd requested this back when it came out, a number of months ago. At that time I was working, and listened to books on CD while I commuted. I'd planned to listen to this then but I was so far down the request list that I knew it would be a while. Well my time to have it finally came up, but I had to listen at home as no job commute any more, really seemed odd, and brought home the fact once again I'm between jobs. Funny how little things can impact you all over again like that.

However, on the plus side, on occasion I'm sure other drivers I pass on the road have wondered if I'm crazy as listening to her stories I'd get laughing quite hard in the car. At home listening just had the fur bodies to wonder about me. The cats pretty much ignored me, but then cats for the most part are pretty laid back. Jaz on the other hand every time I'd start laughing she'd get up and look around like she was saying what? what am I missing? Then since she was up she'd come over to see if a) she could have a scratch b) I wanted to play c) she could have a treat or d) if I she could go out. Dogs have a pretty straight forward thought pattern, LOL. So far she's loved my being home, the novelty of being able to play I want to go out, I want to come in, go out, come in, go out,...... still hasn't worn off. I know one furperson who will not be happy when I find a job. The cats on the other hand, well, here is a picture that pretty much shows how they spend the day.

Other than meal times and some snuggling at the end of the day, I'm not sure they will register to much difference as long as they have a full kibble bowl and a sunbeam. :)
