Vote for a window

Ok, I need some help. I figured the windows would be fairly easy, wrong. Trying to get the effect I was thinking of is not as easy as I'd thought. Who would have thought a couple little windows would end up being the challenge in my converting the colors of my Winter Welcome piece. You can see in my earlier blog entry what my house looked like with dark windows.

What I want is the kind of glow you see when you come home on a winter night and the lights are on, warm and welcoming coming through the windows. Originally I was going with a yellow, but a color with a little more orange was suggested, and it did warm it up. However, I'm still undecided on what looks best, as came up with a couple more ideas.

I've actually stitched up five windows in different ways. So please take a look at how it looks and let me know which window you think looks best. The windows are

Top left, 2 stands 3855
Top middle, 2 strands 677
Top right, 1 strand each of 3855 & 677
Bottom left, 1 strand of 677
Bottom right, 1 strand of 3855

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment, I really apprecate everyones help.

I'm wondering if you went with something orangy close to the bottom and then a lighter yellowish orange more toward the middle if that would give the effect that you want. Something a little darker around the edges would also set off the white cross pieces a bit better. Good luck on finding just that right look!

I know exactly what you mean with the glow you're trying to achieve.

To be honest, I can't make up my mind about the colours you used because for me personally, the glow should be more like a muted lemony colour - DMC 727 or 3822. Now that wasn't really helpful, was it?!?

Btw, you're making good progress on this! :)

I like the top left best, followed very closely by the top right. They look like that welcome home glow that I want to see on a chilly evening.

Are you sure you want all the same floss colors in all the windows? It is totally interesting using the different combinations -- looks like a real house!! I was looking at the neighor's house & each window IS different. If you have to choose one though, IMO the top left and lower right are nice.

Ok at first I didnt realize that you used different colors!! Then I clicked on the picture to get a better look. I like the top left the best.

I was drawn to the top left window first. Hope this helps!

Top left has my vote :)

Top left too, followed by top right. But Lelia's comment is interesting too.
You have a very sure taste, Sue: follow your heart.
You are making huge progress on it and you're doing a stunning personalized job. This is my fav project on blogs at the moment...
Take care and enjoy your week end!

Top left was my choice, followed by top right. Good luck with the decision. I love the fabric colour you have for this. You're making good progress! Oh and by the way...you should definitely get Cirque des Cercles, although a big piece it's very easy to follow ;)

I like the top left best, Sue. Very pretty house and that's a lovely idea, so meaningful.

I like the top left best Sue. Love your progress.

Oh, tough decision! But I would have to go with the top left myself. Lovely house!!

My favorite is top left, too.

I think they're perfect just the way they are, each subtly different from the other. But if you want them all the same, I vote for top left also. That's the homiest looking to me! Beautiful job, I can't wait to see it finished!

I like top left the best :-)

Yikes... I don't know! They all look too similar for me to choose. I know... Not too helpful. :(

It has to be top left for me! and wow you have nearly finished your garfield! Have I really been away this long??

I like the top left one... I like the effect you're going for!

I like everything on the right...top and bottom. For me the top left is too bright or "obvious"...if that makes sense. Lelia's comment is right on as well. Maybe you should leave them and let them all be different. Why not? :o)

Hi, thanks for visiting and ordering :)

    I'd go for top left.

I think I like bottom right 3855 as it has a more subtle glow to it. I think your eye gets drawn to top left as it is the boldest colour out of them all, I would use that (top left) if you are wanting the glow more obvious. Any would look very pretty though as they are all nice.

My vote would be bottom left hand window.

I'd have to vote for the top left... and windows ARE hard!

Just received your comment....LOL, i love being an enabler ;) Now you have the hard decision of colours for CdC!!

I clicked and looked at the larger picture. I like all the windows and I think they're charming, but I don't see the kind of indoor lighting glow you are looking to emulate. i think it's hard to capture that against a pale blue background. What about a beigy-taupe color? I like the piece very much, btw.

Put me down as another vote for top left. It does stand out a lot, but from what you're written that's what you're going for, right? Or maybe use 1 strand for the windows and 2 strands for the door windows.

My vote goes to bottom right #3855 which is subtle and looks like early evening. This is such a lovely house/home.

I liked the bottom right myself as it was more subtle. The house looks very nice.

The top middle one catches my eye the most ;)

Holy cow, Sue! You're making it very difficult, you know ;-) There is such a subtle difference, and whatever you decided is going to be beautiful. I actually think either of the top end windows are the prettiest.

I like the bottom right one because you can see the distinction between the window panes.
